Developing Tourism Leaders Awards 2009

The 2009 Awards Presentation Event was held at VECCI, 486 Albert St, East Melbourne on the 10th of November. Mrs Lizzie Cokre, Proprietor of the Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology spoke to guests about establishing her business and presented the awards. Mr Damien Tkalec, Executive General Manager Corporate Development at Melbourne Airport also addressed the group on behalf of Melbourne Airport, the Principal sponsor of the awards.

The overall winner of the 2009 Melbourne Airport Developing Tourism Leaders Award was Almila Erturk from William Angliss Institute.


Hospitality Work Placement Manual

SSV, in partnership with industry bodies Restaurant and Catering Victoria, ALH Group and Crown Melbourne, and training institutes William Angliss Institute, Ascet TAFE, Swinburne University, Ballarat University, Victoria University, Diversitat and East Gippsland Institute of TAFE, have developed a Certificate II Hospitality work placement manual to assist in developing relationships between a student, small business and RTO to establish a successful placement opportunity for a student looking at getting into hospitality. The manuals have been designed for the student and the employer and outline process and procedures, insurance and payment requirements, relevant agreements for parties to sign and a clear outline to an employer of the skills the student will be able to practice in their business.

Reframing the Future

Service Skills Victoria works with various industry stakeholders on a number of different Reframing the Future projects. These include the Hairdressers Network and the Pre-Apprenticeship Network.


Food Safety RPL Template

Service Skills Victoria (SSV), as part of a project funded by Reframing the Future, ran a series of workshops during 2006 to provide input and feedback to improve the quality of Food Safety training and assessment in Victoria. The main areas of focus were hospitality, retail and food processing industries Attendance was drawn from related industry, registered training organisations, TAFE (both rural and metro), Department of Human Services (DHS) and Curriculum Maintenance Managers across the three training packages.
