The company
Service Skills Victoria is a small not-for-profit company working with Victorian service industries to
address skill development issues and to ensure that the skills of the workforce are able to meet the
future needs of industry. SSV is governed by an industry based, bipartite board and works closely with
government, industry and training providers. SSV is considered to be a key player in the industries and
a ‘go to’ organisation for advice on training and skill development.
The role
The program manager’s role reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for managing program
development and relationships with the Wholesale, Retail and Personal Services (WRAPS) sectors.
Consultation with industry, translated into representation and advice on skill development is central to
the role, as is facilitation of industry advisory committees and management of projects relevant to the
company’s core business.
The candidate
The preferred candidate will have strong project management ability; highly developed communication
skills, including consultation, facilitation and presentation; and demonstrated research and report writing
skills. Knowledge and experience of one or more of the WRAPS sectors will be an advantage, as will
an understanding of issues surrounding vocational training and education. Operating within a small
team will require multi-skilling and the ability to work independently as well as playing a key leadership
role within the team.
The Benefits
This role will enable the successful candidate to develop a strong profile within the service industry
networks and further develop consultation, facilitation and project management skills. With a small
organisation the opportunity exists to further develop management and leadership skills, thus creating
further career opportunities. Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience, particularly in
terms of the ability to attract revenue through project funding.
