The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) in association with the City of Melbourne, invites you to the quarterly tourism industry forum.
Following Black Saturday 7 February 2009, Australia’s fire agencies have been working hard to prevent the devastation – both human and financial – experienced on and since that day.
One of the outcomes has been the introduction of a new fire danger rating system, right across Australia. The intention of the system is to inform the public about the potential risk of fire ahead of time to enable local residents and business owners to leave a fire danger zone well ahead of any potential incident.
But is the messaging working? What impacts are the advisory communications procedures having on tourism? Is the term ‘catastrophic’ applied to certain days appropriate?
The informative session will include a panel of special guest speakers consisting of Ewan Waller (Chief Officer, Fire and Emergency Management, DSE), Steve Baird (Tour Operator, Bogong Horseback Adventures) and Peter Corish (CEO, Victorian Caravan Parks Association).
