Beauty Review - Melbourne Consultation Workshop
Provide input into the future direction of skills development in the beauty industry
Service Skills Australia is currently reviewing the qualifications and competency standards that underpin the national vocational education and training (VET) system for beauty. This will determine the standard of the future skills and knowledge required for the beauty workforce.
The skills described in the training package form the basis for nationally-recognised beauty training in Australia, including courses offered by TAFE and private training organisations. The review of this training package will impact on the services and outcomes provided by the VET system including apprenticeships and traineeships.
Service Skills Australia in conjunction with Service Skills Victoria is conducting a forum in Melbourne for both industry and registered training organisation stakeholders to provide input into the future of training in the beauty industry.
The workshop will cover:
- Current trends in skills development and technology in the beauty industry
- Training that reflects industries expectations and standards
- In depth analysis of draft units and qualifications

Service Skills Australia and Service Skills Victoria wants to hear from Australian workers
Service Skills Australia and Service Skills Victoria are calling for workers in the service industries to participate in a survey and contribute to the future direction of accredited training in Australia.
In 2008, Service Skills Australia conducted an online survey in which 90% of respondents stated that their business provides on-the-job training. But do employers and workers have different views on what training really means? Service Skills is seeking to answer this question, and explore how workers benefit from training.
The survey will provide information to the service industries about the value and uptake of on-the-job training and the awareness of accredited qualifications and certificates.
Participants have the chance to go in the draw to win a $250 gift voucher.
To participate go to www.serviceskills.com.au/surveys
Hardcopies can also be requested by contacting Anne-Marie Yates ayates@serviceskills.com.au
This survey is completely anonymous and should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
Closing date: 30 September 2009.
Who should participate?
Workers in beauty, community pharmacy, hospitality, events, funeral services, tourism, sport, fitness and recreation, hairdressing, floristry, holiday parks and resorts, wholesale and retail.
